Originally from the Philadelphia area, Dr. Nathan graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University. He received his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he distinguished himself in the development of medical education software. He subsequently entered the McLean Hospital Residency Training Program of Harvard Medical School. In his final year at McLean, Dr. Nathan served as Chief Resident of the Bipolar and Psychotic Disorders Program. In this capacity, he supervised residents on the inpatient service and founded an outpatient clinic with senior clinicians and residents. In 1998, Dr. Nathan came to Princeton and began his private practice.
Dr. Nathan is the Director of Continuing Medical Education for the Princeton HealthCare System (PHCS) and the Director of Professional Education for PHCS's Department of Psychiatry. He also serves on the hospital’s biomedical ethics committee. Dr. Nathan is board certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and he is a Fellow in the American Psychiatric Association. He remains involved in teaching as a Clinical Associate Professor at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He has published numerous articles in the psychiatric and lay press.
Dr. Nathan keeps abreast of changes in the treatment of acute and chronic mental illness, and he divides his time equally between psychotherapy and psychopharmacology.
